Got any Knape-Vogt 256's? I'm looking for 2 dozen or so.

Online i can buy a box of 100 for $14 or i can buy 1000 on ebay for 10$ + shipping. It's for the next house project. I think it's time to tear up the house. i would like a compound miter saw or a table saw, or both.

Time to fix things today..

After the every 2-year PG&E wire fix, time to attempt to waranty or fix things that were zapped. I got a return authorization for the motherboard, that'll take 2 weeks to come back.
As for my Paradigm 400$ 12-inch sub, i called around to see if they service such items. One in SF said no, since i didn't buy from them, they ain't gonna help. Second in SF said we can send it out back to Canada but you'll hafta pay. Third in Menlo Park tells me that if i send it to him he'll check if it's just a blown fuse and go from there. Fuse? Yep theres a fuse in its motherboard that controls the subwoofer. I ask how hard is it to do, he says it's not hard if your not afraid of circuitry and wiring.

So This is whats inside a $$ Subwoofer. Fuse is hidden to the right of the board.

So out comes the screwdriver. Looking simple, popped out the fuse, went to home depot, found the bussman 2Amp 250Volt replacement fuses for $2.87. Pop the fuse in, screw back the screws, turn on the HK, bump some tunes, lo n behold light turns on. One fixed item fixed.

One last thing, Want some Super High end HDMI Wires for super cheap? $224,540 3-Meter HDMI wire for $5.79, Deal of the Century!

Level Of Difficulty at Work: .35 out of 10
Time During Lunch: None

2 things of the day:
1) Delilah had a little excursion off to Arco's Body Shop in South San Francisco to get her bootie fixed. It was looked over and done in 3.5 days, pretty good, but then all that happened was a filling and repainting of the bumper. She got a free detailing as well, inside and out! Shes so clean! Except orographic rain sprayed on her.
2) Yesterday Jerry-O sports a new bebe grrl Juliana, woo! Kiddies are coming everywhere!

Ahh yea, i love to watch the British car show Top Gear. They've got some silly episodes, the first time i caught on to this show they had a car challenge where the three main spokesmen were to make a amphibious car. It had to be both drivable on the road as well as on the water. One got a toyota truck and stuck a 225 hp boat engine on the back. The second bought a van and tried to water seal it and powered by a propeller hooked to the motor which is on the end of the van. The third bought a convertable and stuck a mast, yes a mast with a sail on it. The Toyota woulda won but the guy goofed around too much where the car with the sail slowly breezed right on. The HouseVan sank though, sank like a rock.
Anyhow i digress. Check out this Soccer Action.
Of course this is a european car show, so you won't be seeing these cars in America. The Toyota Aygo (built in the czech republic) vs, the VW Fox (built in Brazil).

World Cup Anyone?

Forgot to mention one thing. On our one hour guided hike, our Ranger was yep, Ranger Bob.
Finally cleaned most of the tents n what not, just dried them out on the backyard, give it a few shakes and then most of the dirt n tree bits are out.
Still though a lot of stuff still smells like smoke. Hickory smoked everything! The washer and dryer are going all out right now..

Hows this for End of the World... Obese Geese. Living a life of junk food, Canadian Geese in Palo Alto aren't flying south for the winter.

Just got back from the Big Basin State Park. Oldest state park in California (est. 1902)a little north of Santa Cruz.

Project PimpNalgene is complete for now.. Time to bring it camping.

It was quite an adventure for a simple 2 night 2 day trip.
Friday evening:
Right before leaving, the weather report stated 50% chance of showers during the night. Partly cloudy saturday. Right..
Left home and went down highway 1 to San Gregorio, up to highway 35, connected to highway 9, and then ending on highway 236. The last was the road to eternity and it didn't look like a road. Even roaming on the long side, we got there in about 1.5 hours. By the time we checked in and all that it was past sunset and ambient lighting started to go. After surveying the site and figuring out where to pitch the tent i figured there were 10 minutes of daylight before it was too late. Sure enough 10 minutes later we were using the lantern lifting the tent stakes up. After setting up we cooked some hot cocoa and hung out for a little bit. About 10pm or so a gaggle of thuggish college types came grumbling and rumbling about, causing a bit of a ruckus. 10pm to sunrise is 'quiet time.' After a bit more noise and after a few other campers asking them to quiet down, the ranger was summoned and the noise totally died down. Sounded good for the while then the rain comes. Inbetween the quietness and rain came our friendly raccoon somehow smelt the packets of cocoa powder and went in for the kill, taking out a few packets, man! From about 2am till 2pm saturday it was raining, constantly. Not showering, not on-and-off, but a constant flow. Somehow we sleep.

Of all days to pour down.

Saturday:
We awake about 7:30am with the gentle pitter patter of rain on our tent. Everything was wet, we had to truck things back n forth from the car to the site, it kinda sucked. About 9am, we go to the headquarters and hang out there and roam a bit. Theres a little store that sells $5.50 for either a box of 250 matches or a lighter, yep a cheapie not even a bic plastic lighter. A tarp is $20, the one i have i bought at kragen on sale for 1.99. At leas the beef jerky is 99cents. I head to the pay phone and it's not fair, for $1 you can call 5 minutes to Mexico, but to the bay area you only get 4 minutes for the same amount!
Theres a cheesy museum with snakes in a tube! a bunch of taxidermied birds and animals. We were about to leave at 9:30 when i hear something on my walkie talkie. It happens to be Roz n Robyn! So we go back to the campsite and decide to pitch the second tent for now. It's raining and we've got umbrellas and we're making a fire in the rain, which is simple but kinda funny to be standing around a fire with umbrellas. We decide to cook up some hot dogs and smores for now, in case it's donezo for all of us.

Things get interesting when your trying to cook and handle food in the rain.
We figured that theres an easy 1 hour guided hike that starts on noon or 2pm. We decide to go for 2pm, in case Sherwin shows up. Luckily we did for the two-toned celica arrives. And at 2pm, the rain fades and the clouds part and sun shines! We eventually convince the latecomer to stay overnight. The weather stays pretty good throughout the stay.

Sunday:
Packing messy wet gear sucks. Everybody else is out as well, even the loud folk, they were better saturday night. Sherwin bails and we head to Pescadero to Duarte's. It's dead looking until reaching the stop sign the whole 'downtown' area is all filled with cars. I had a calimari sandwich and it was one huge piece of squid! yum!

As for the Pimp Nalgene, it suffered some battle damage, i gotta replace some of the stones that shifted or bailed. The glue states that it'll set in 10 days. beh!

Time During Lunch: Short

PG&E came and replaced our rusted wiring, again.. It's about 2 years since it was replaced and it seems that this is what life is gonna be at this house. I gotta ground all the outlets, it's frying everything plugged in.
This time lets see whats fried so far:
both my motherboards i think, i dunno what components inside it are fried.
the paradigm subwoofer.

Last time it was the ionic breeze, and roomba. Weak!

Anyone wanna play tetris against this dood?

Time for some pistol action. the '08 NCAPOA pistol match.
This time the target is harder. Last year it was a bowling pin silhouette with a matching inner ring. 2 points for inside the ring, 1 for the other. This time it's a bowling pin silhouette except theres a 5" ring not barely visible in it's direct center. 1st time out i vent for the glock 21c, but didn't do too well, i scored a 63 out of 100. Then i decide to screw around with my 686, i get a 81. Peter, Capt'n D, and Ed were our team but Ed couldn't make it so we had an opening that wasn't filled. I hear that people can reshoot for a teammate who flaked. So i go in at it with the 686 with a score of 71. Damn that hot dog and hamburger weighing me down! Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Get home and started to clean the guns, loaded 100rnds of .38 and my computer all of a sudden restarts and never boots up. No POST screen, nada. I think the motherboard is fried, great. I hope i can get it replaced, but i dunno, it's got a 3 year limited warranty, and it's only year 2. But if i can't get it replaced i'll need to find a replacement socket 939 board, which is old tech now. Sucks!

Level Of Difficulty at Work: .25 out of 10 (got to run around seeking suspects! Oooo)
Time During Lunch: Medium

freaking hell, i got rear ended again. I tell ya Delilah's bumper is pretty robust. So the story goes *insert wavy flashback transition*...
i get home from work and fluffielady is off teaching her dance thing at the rec center. I decide that i'm bringing my dual suspension to my parents house and pick up the 2 tents that i'll need for next weekend, also might as well get some groceries. i head to s.f., exit the ocean - geneva exit and on the intersection of Geneva and Howth theres this kid who is a few feet into the intersection looking down the hill to see if a bus is coming. He doesn't see a bus and decides to cross the street. Fine and dandy, so two other cars in front of me stop since this kid is acting silly anyways, so i stop as well. A lady in a white Toyota Camry that she just bought (used) recently was a bit aways from me heading at me. I guess she didn't notice that everybody stopped 'cuz i saw the look on her face a quarter second before the car is reaching out to touch me. She slams on the brakes and i think the hit was in the 5-10mph, sounded quite loud actually. Farging Great. Pulled over, looked at the bumper, it doesn't look that binged up. i was expecting to see a crushed bumper but theres nothing but a gangload of scrapes. i told her that my bumper's paint is newer than the rest of the car from a previous rear-ending with a similar story. Anyhow exchange info, blahblah, drove to my parents. Dropped off the goods, picked up the goods and went to Lucky's at Hickey. I tell ya i'm getting bored with Life, life cereal, 'cuz it's the only thing on sale. This time i went for some corn chex.
Got home, made some bay shrimp sandwiches and fluffielady returns from teaching.

My back feels kinda funny now, i guess it's craka-laka time tommorrow. I think Delilah looks fast in yellow, so fast that people don't notice that shes stopped until it's too late!

Dreamtime:

Today i dreamt that it felt like one of those old school summer days of my youth. Except we're at our current ages. Bert n I were walking around the hills of Chinatown and we meet up with this guy that i haven't seen in awhile. I used to hang out with this guy when i was 14 or so but now it's been so long. He asks 'what did you bring?' i ask what did he mean. He told me what xbox 360 game did i bring. I told him i don't have a xbox 360 and he just shrugged and we start walking some more. Yea this guy played a whole lotta street fighter 2 back in the day. So we reach this corner and theres a newspaper machine. On top of that is one of those pill reminder boxes, where theres flaps for the individual days and you take whatever pills are in there. So i open the flap and theres a bottle of pills in each flap. I tried reading the prescription label and i realize that whoevers pills they were, weren't issued locally. Great what am i to do with a box of meds? We head to the chinatown hospital to drop it off. Then i wake up.

Picked up the moto after 2 weeks. It took a week for 2 relays to come in and .1 hour each to replace. Moto now better own for a while! Anyhow while at the shop, Marie, asked if i visited burning man over the weekend. Both of us didn't go, it's just that a bunch of her customers were talking about it. I suppose they got their bikes tuned up to roll around in the desert.
I remember when i first heard about it in the 90's. A desert community of tent or van people grouped together to experience an emergence of a tribal raw human connection. Art, music, and thought combine throughout the event and people really dig it. Kinda like a hippie commune reunion. And at the end this supersized man statue burns, signifying whatever you believe it signifies. i dunno if i'll ever go to one, it is interesting to see.
Anyhow, i've been looking for some camping stuff here and there. On Craigslist whatever i searched some posting comes out to 'selling tent, bag, stove, etc. perfect for burning man.'
So i searched online for some burning man pics, theres a few interesting ones:

45,000 people set up pretty organized, duncha think?

And yes, it's a ball of Pooh..

Did more of nothing today. Man whats going on?
Anyhow while roaming the net i found two neato tech things.
One is the newest version of Google Earth has a flight simulator in it. Although it's a sketchy one it's semi-neat, if your a Google Earth Fan. go Download the new stuff and bust a Control-Alt-A and follow the prompts!

The other neato software is the latest in digital cameras. About a few months ago there was 'face priority' software where the camera would find your face and adjust the white balance to it. Well Sony One-Up's with a smiley face detector. Yep, it won't take the pic unless you smile.. Good for those times where that individual only smiles for 1/10th of a second when asked.

Bored i tell ya, bored!

Since nothings planned today we decide to do outside things. Yep, first on the list is to paint the rusting flagpole. We've neglected it for long enough. With non-existent wind (for the moment) we decided to go for it. Why not, what else is there to do?

Break out the extension ladder and well, thats good enough. Who goes up? Fluffielady does, by using the determination of who-is-making-money-at-the-moment-stays-grounded. Not fair, she goes up and primes the pole with rustoleum. I never did get to take pics, i was holding the ladder still. Wait for it to dry, in the mean time we go powerwash the whole house. Windows, floors, doors, we get this moss growing on the house, and during the wet times sometimes if the moss is real bad things can get slippery. Blast it off and your good to go for a year or so. Ate lunch and decided to go for the paint job.

Reach out and Touch someone, or something. Ain't the background purdy!

We bought some ultra weatherproof enamel for the pole and did 2 coats on it. We also painted the lions and horse jockey dood as well. This paint stuff better last!
Fluffielady went to clean some boxes of junk when she left school. Tossing junk is cool.

Time for some high power, not the dream stuff that i just had.
Weather was excellent, blue sky pretty clear and very warm. Going up the golden gate and then onto the richmond bridges wasn't that bad, but i got to the range slightly late. So they tell me, the only spots available are on the 3rd relay. Ugh, do i really want to wait? i tell them i'm out, then they say that theres others shooting the 3rd as well. Oh i thought it was only going to be me on the 3rd relay, fine why not, i crossed 2 bridges and my stuff is here, lets do this.

200 Yard Slow Offhand: 184-2x
200 Yard Rapid Sitting: 95-2x
300 Yard Rapid Prone: 94
600 Yard Slow Prone: 95-2
Total: 468-6x

Horrible, i had a few shots where i should have stopped, but i decided to keep at it. Yes thats the overholding. My shots are getting sloppy and the past few months i'm not feeling it anymore for this anyway. Busting out the Rock River AR once a month to practice at home and then once a month to shoot doesn't really sharpen the skills. Since i've reached my goal of the master class, that was kinda it, done. The other other goal i wanted was to become a Distinguished Civilian Marksman, but that involves traveling to either East Sacramento or Coalinga to shoot in the top 10% to score points that will accumulate. I want something more challenging, something in the further distances, 300-400-500 yards. But i think the only thing closest to that are the 600 yard matches in Sacramento. Beh, wake up at 4am, drive 2+ hours to the east side of Sacramento, i dunno about that. There aren't that many long distance ranges in the bay area, Livermore used to have one, but they closed the long range stuff due to the housing madness. Yep you could blast out to 800 yards in Livermore, those were the good old days. Lately, fluffielady and myself have been feeling kinda bleh. Bleh! i tell u! What to do what to do. We don't even have anything planned for this 3 day weekend. merp!

Dreamtime:

i dreamt that a bunch of the crew decided to go attend this whacky triathlon. Actually we all went to see it, but somehow we stood in line to sign up. It was whacky in the sense that it involved the usual swim/bike/run, but there were 'alternatives' that you could do to reduce your overall time. This is when the wierdness begins. The two additions were a 2 10-shot rifle deal where each hit deducts time, the other was a concert level piano performance judged by a panel and then a time deduction is given. So as we sign up the race starts but since it's a whacky race, two groups of runners ran towards each other and then turn. Well it's the turn that confuses. After this i realize that this is whack, but we've signed up. So Fluffielady, Roz and I were getting ready and we see capt'n d wandering and he joins us. We all jog eventually and get to the rifle shooting part. I wanted to do it so we stop there and theres 10 lanes, and it's pretty empty. Well out of the 10 lanes only 2 of them had targets to shoot at, and it was ran by some nigerian and japanese people, i dunno, i just dream this stuff up. So we stand and stand and all of a sudden all 10 lanes are filled with people and still there were only 2 lanes that could shoot. We wait for up to 25 minutes and i find one of the judges and tell him whats up with this? 25 minutes lost, waste of time, etc. The judge sees the mess, and says ok i'll be adjusting you guy's times and leaves. Wait a minute the guy doesn't even know who we are. At 35minutes we decide to take a nap (take a nap on a race?) and the nap was about 5 minutes, we wake up and the lanes are empty as heck. So all of us get our rifles and get up to the shooting line. Somehow i have a M1A in .50BMG, which doesn't exist. But i get the rifle and one of the nigerians says, i need to check your rifle, ok. So she does and opens the bolt, she then realizes the caliber and looks at me. I just nod and say common let's do this. All of a sudden she asks 'do you have a target?' i'm thinking, what kinda race is this where i need to bring my own targets? i tell her i don't have one, so she points at an area on a clear plastic sheet to shoot at. I say, fine lets go. She then says 'i need to stop the firing line so that i can put the target up,' what the heck is this? At this time it's all packed again with people. So she stops the line and then a few firing points to my left they bring out a japanese flag salute with the japanese national anthem. And since i don't know the pomp and circumstance involving the japanese national flag, i just stand at attention, while people are making these weird handsigns, and singing. At this point i told myself 'you know what i want my money back, this is whack.' Thats when i woke up.
I never did get to play the Chopin piano piece that i thought i could play.
