Do you have Direction?

Ok so off to today.. i'm pondering a theory on the evolution of the world due to the social changes in ones freedom of future choice.. It's sorta a twisted view on Choice Vs. Pre-determination..
I've wondered about it like this..
Say back in the day, oh let's go way back.. the 1600's and your grandfather was a shoemaker/leather worker.. therefore your father learned the trade from his father.. and most likely you will become a shoemaker / leather worker and so on and so forth. So thats sorta like pre-determination. 'cuz in the 1600's you couldn't be a upper-class unless your parents were.. and people couldn't switch around.. they weren't mobile until the industrial revolution..
So comes to oh.. 1940's. Your grandpa worked as a mechanic.. Your dad worked as a mechanic, and You CAN work as a mechanic, but since your now mobile, due to technology of movement.. trains, buses, roads, planes, cars, whatever. you can skip town and begin your own path, you can become a carpenter. Evolution of schools, and rise of education gave forth ideals and dreams for kids, Right? 'what do you wanna be when you grow up?' is the question for children nowadays.. But back in the 1940's it was ok to do your thing, go your place learn your trade, and the main reason (mostly) was that you want your children to live a better life, a more grandeur life. But i see some side effects of it..
Due to the fact that your parents or grandparents worked hard so that the future can have a comfortable life, the future becomes lax, the future becomes bourgeois. it's easy to see! The beginning of the spoiled children come.. especially this age and time.
As i've grown up, everybody is established, and nobody has to work 4-jobs to make ends meet. Everything is credit, pre-approved, 0% financing. Ya want it? sure, can't pay for it whole? we can slice n dice it so that you pay over time. And so, now your grandpa was a hard working carpenter, your dad becomes a hard working store owner, and you.. what do you do? Do you wanna run a store? maybe.. maybe not. You have a college degree, that maybe your parents never had the chance to get.. so you become a doctor or lawyer. you've accomplished your parents goal, to have a better life! congrats! so what if you don't? what if you did go for your college education, and in the midst of it you have one of them changes where you realize you don't wanna be in this major? what if somehow you see something that affects you so hard that you lose direction.. then what?
Your parents are established, they are semi-well off.. you can live with them.. but what are you gonna do? stay with them until you figure out your path? So does is a problem of Choice..
Heck.. it can even get worse! what if you're a slacker, who doesn't have the best environment but your parents are sorta established.. this is where i think society is going. youngins have been spoiled, why study, why work hard, why even attempt things when it might not work out or someone else might get it becomes the mentality. screw this! i'm gonna hang out with my friends, i'm gonna get in trouble 'cuz my parents won't give me attention because they are always at working trying to make a better life for me.. This way may turn into the spiraling downhill for ones life. it may be a phase where 'ok i've goofed off enough i'm gonna start acting my age.' it may not.. so is this pre-determined or is it choice?
Pre-determinted that the fact that your parents try to make it good for you but you take advantage of it and use it for all it's worth? or did you choose to go towards the downhill path because everything is the same, if i can do it, he can too, therefore why try? The world is turning to where you don't need skill to do things. I've got a B.S. (heh) degree in criminology, i've learned penal codes, search and seizure (2 semesters on ONLY the 4th and 5th Admendments!).. So i join the sheriffs dept.. what do i learn in the police academy? Penal Code, and search and seizure (in 1 week, each, MAX).. So what do i do? i don't study, why try, i've learned it before, i'm learning it again.
I can't wait until nanobots and fusion power come.. maybe there will be a utopia.. Whats your direction?
